PPG recently announced that the company has been named to Newsweek magazine’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list for the fourth consecutive year. Thousands of companies were considered for the 2024 list, which recognizes the 600 most responsible companies in the United States across 14 industry subcategories.
“PPG is proud to be included within this prestigious list,” said Diane Kappas, PPG vice president, global sustainability. “We are committed to driving incremental progress against our 2030 sustainability targets, integrating sustainability into how we operate and serve our customers, and making a meaningful impact in communities where we live, work and play.”
Companies in the 2024 list were selected based a review of publicly available performance data in the environmental, social, and corporate governance categories and a survey of 17,000 U.S. residents about their perceptions of companies related to corporate social responsibility.
PPG continues to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, develop products that enhance customers’ sustainability, engage with communities, and further strengthen and diversify its global workforce. In May 2023, the company released its 2022 ESG Report, which highlighted progress toward achieving its goals in areas including:
- Announcing near-term 2030 sustainability targets, including scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- Committed to investing $5 million by 2030 in environmental sustainability education, which will support programs such as workshops presented by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, that assist grade school educators in building knowledge and capabilities for teaching energy topics in the classroom.
- Continuing to invest in PPG’s signature COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® initiative. The company marked more than 500 projects, with 90% of 2023 projects incorporating an element of sustainability.
