Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) President and CEO, Eric R. Byer, released a statement applauding representatives Troy Nehls (TX-22) and Seth Moulton (TX-6) for introducing H.R. 8996, a bill to enhance freight rail safety across the nation.

In his statement, Byer said, “For far too long, freight rail service has been unreliable for the countless businesses and industries that rely on it to deliver critical products day-to-day. Just last month, the National Transportation Safety Board released its final report on last year’s devastating train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which has only renewed the urgency of comprehensive reforms to be enacted.

“This rail safety bill builds upon other legislation before Congress to restore reliability, safety, and consistent service to our nation’s freight rail system. It’s critical that Congress finds consensus on these commonsense reforms to address ongoing operational challenges, enhance safety measures, and resolve the unacceptable disruptions and practices of Class I railroads. ACD looks forward to working with members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to ensure these reforms are passed and sent to the President’s desk.”
