Kuraray announced last week that the company is ending production and sale of its KURARITY™ acrylic block copolymer.
In the press release making the announcement, the company stated, “Since the commercialization of KURARITY™ in 2012, Kuraray has striven to expand operations related to this product by releasing variations suitable for a diverse range of applications. However, due to the ongoing harshness of the business environment, we have judged that it will be extremely difficult to secure sufficient profit to sustain these operations and maintain stable production going forward.
“Accordingly, Kuraray will cease the production of KURARITY™ at the end of June 2026.
“We extend our wholehearted gratitude to our business partners and other stakeholders for their longstanding patronage of our KURARITY™ business and sincerely ask for their understanding.”
The KURARITY series of acrylic block copolymers are produced using the company’s anionic living polymerization technology. That technology combines various (meth)acrylates into AB or ABA type block copolymers. According to the company, applications include adhesives, molded goods, light guides, plastics modifier, and additives.
