Sartomer Company has developed a line of metal-containing oligomers for high solids, solvent-recoverable acrylic and hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs). When used as a co-reactant in the preparation of an acrylic or hot melt PSA by bulk, solution or emulsion polymerization, these new oligomers introduce ionic crosslinks into the backbone. The crosslinks yield thermoset behavior and enhanced adhesive properties at ambient temperatures. At elevated temperatures, the crosslinks break to yield thermoplastic behavior. These new oligomers offer adhesion to a broad range of substrates and excellent durability on exposure to moisture, heat and ultraviolet light.
