BCC: Report Says U.S. Biocides Market To Reach $1.87 Billion By 2008
According to a soon-to-be-released updated report from Business Communications Company, Inc., RC-224R Biocides, the total U.S. market for biocides was estimated at $1.6 billion in 2003. Expected to grow at an average annual rate of 3.2%, this market is likely to reach $1.87 billion by 2008. Highlights from the report: the four largest end uses for biocides (accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total market) are swimming pool and spa disinfectants, paper slimicides, wood preservatives and personal care products; by product group, the three largest are halogenated compounds, inorganic compounds and quaternaries, accounting for nearly 55% of the total market; the most rapidly growing end uses are health care (4.8%), paper (3.7%), and disinfectants and sanitizers (3.4%), and the product types that are growing the fastest are quaternaries (4.6%), halogenated compounds (4.1%), other nitrogen compounds (3.4%), and organosulfurs (3.4%); and the main driving force behind the growth trend is the growing awareness of the need to protect against infection by microorganisms.
