DOW REICHHOLD: Polymer Chemistry
Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex has introduced BarrierPro PolymerTMBP3000 - a proprietary polymer chemistry engineered for medical and dental exam gloves.“New BarrierPro PolymerTMBP3000 is a next-generation polymer engineered for medical and dental exam gloves. It processes similar to nitrile butadiene latex and gives glove manufacturers an alternative to natural latex, nitrile, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In addition it does not contain nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE), silicone, natural latex proteins, formaldehyde or plasticizers,” said Rob Ewing, Dow Reichhold’s global market manager for gloves.
Ewing said that gloves made with BP3000 have outstanding comfort and wet grip performance. In addition, gloves made with BarrierPro BP3000 meet ASTM and EN tensile requirements, and offer excellent grip and wet performance.
FLEXCON: Pressure-Sensitive Acrylic Adhesive
FLEXcon introduces their V-478 permanent pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive transfer tape. V-478 is a highly aggressive adhesive ideal for use with powder-coated paint surfaces and low-surface-energy plastics. The adhesive thickness is available in a one to four mil. coating, which can be custom produced to fit application specifications.V-478 is part of FLEXcon's line of permanent pressure-sensitive adhesives. It was recently developed for use with Rogers Corp.'s PORON®Urethane Foams.
V-478 is ideal for use in harsh environments, including areas that have varying temperatures, such as electrical boxes, automotive components and aerospace components. Users may also choose between V-478 single or double-coated products to suit their needs.

MACTAC: Adhesive System
Offering solutions for a variety of markets, MACtac has identified the need for a skin-friendly adhesive, coated on a printer-friendly substrate.MACtac’s Ultra-Low Adhesive (ULA), which is a hypoallergenic, medical grade pressure-sensitive adhesive modeled for sensitive skin contact applications, would be ideal to use in the construction of a face sticker, mask or other form of body art. It is repositionable and suitable for a variety of skin applications regardless of skin type or sensitivity. With its excellent adhesion to skin, cooling sensation upon contact and pain-free removal, MACtac’s ULA can make wearing a mask or sticker fun and skin-friendly.
“In addition to gentleness and versatility, the ULA adhesive features excellent stability, die-cutting, and print properties,” said Jennifer Bowman, MACtac Corporate Marketing. “Offering a range of liner, release and adhesive consistency levels and thicknesses, ULA is conformable and compliant with the needs of printers and converters alike.”
Available in single- or double-coated foam, film and nonwoven constructions, ULA products resist peel build and maintain the same amount of peel adhesion after 30 minutes or 24 hours. The adhesive can conform to both a film and paper construction, and MACtac will test both processes to ensure the proper solution is found.

PLEXUS: Structural Adhesives
Three Plexus®structural adhesives produce exceptionally strong yet flexible bonds on composites and offer medium to long working times for large assemblies. They require little or no surface preparation and cure at room temperature to tough, durable bonds that withstand service temperatures of - 40° to 180° F. Two-part structural methacrylates dispensed manually or with standard meter-mix equipment, MA530, MA560-1, and MA590 are 100% reactive, non-sagging gels recommended for joining composite assemblies, ABS, acrylics, FRP, gelcoats, polyesters (including DCPD modified), PVC, styrenics, and vinyl esters. They are ideal for boats, trucks, buses, architectural ornamentation, wind turbine blades, and composite bridges and decks.MA530 has a working time of 30-40 minutes and fills gaps up to 0.70”. A 0.03” bond line achieves approximately 75% of its ultimate shear strength in 90-160 minutes at 74° F, according to preliminary testing data. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, 5-gallon pails, and 50-gallon drums.
MA560-1 has a longer working time (55-70 minutes) and fills gaps up to 1.00”. It is recommended for large structures as well as small-part assembly where fewer workers are required. Fixture time for a 0.03” bond line is 220-240 minutes at 74° F. This adhesive is also recommended for certain metals and many other substrates. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, 5-gallon pails, and 50-gallon drums.
MA590, with a very long working time of 90-105 minutes, was formulated for building large fiberglass boats but is acceptable for other applications. A 0.03” bond line achieves approximately 75% of its ultimate shear strength in 180-240 minutes at 74° F. Like MA560-1, this adhesive fills gaps up to 1.00” and is recommended for certain metals in addition to other substrates. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, 5-gallon pails, and 50-gallon drums.
