LANXESS Corp.’s Material
Protection Products (MPP) business unit recently received Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) registration for a new Bronopol-based biocide formulation. The
biocide is a VOC-free synergistic blend of Bronopol
(2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol) and smaller percentages of CMIT/MIT (5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one/2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one). LANXESS
is marketing this formulation under the PREVENTOL®P 91 brand name. The
group also sells PREVENTOL P 100 Preservative (100% Bronopol) and PREVENTOL P
30 (VOC-free 30% Bronopol solution).
“With the registration of PREVENTOL P
91, our Bronopol portfolio is now much more flexible,” said Dr. Oliver Kretschik, market manager
for the business. “We can now offer customers VOC-free options to
meet their anti-bacterial needs and can also address problems that require a
VOC-free full spectrum biocide and have additional options for sanitization
measures.”
These Bronopol-based
products are particularly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative
bacteria, including sulfate-reducing, anaerobic types. In addition, these
biocides are effective at preventing the formation of biofilms and slime
deposits.
