This company, a business group of Emerald Performance Materials, has released a new silicone product, SILMERA™ PR-27. A concentrated, dilution-stable silicone emulsion that is free of solvents, nonylphenol (NPE) and alkylphenol ethoxylate (APE), the material was specially developed as an easy-to-use additive reportedly providing superior slip and mar resistance in water-based printing inks, including inks used for indirect food packaging.
SILMERA PR-27’s chemistry is reportedly more effective than many similar additives on the market designed to reduce slip and mar. The low viscosity emulsion can incorporate easily into inks without the “hang up” on the mixing blades or sides of the mixing vessel that can occur with higher viscosity fluids. The product has a relatively high silicone loading of 60%, in contrast to 40-50% levels in pre-mix formulas, and its reduced particle size reportedly eliminates surface defects.
