Ashland Specialty Ingredients, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., recently announced it has obtained certification by the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for 13 ultraviolet (UV) and water-based overprint varnishes within the PureRad™ and PureKote™ overprint varnish (OPV), product lines. The products are now commercially available for use with Hewlett Packard (HP) Indigo narrow web printing presses.

The print-receptive coatings are clear, and can reportedly better fixate ink on a variety of substrates while protecting it from aesthetic and functional damage during the intended life of the graphic. The range of available products was designed to meet the diverse technology and application needs of the global marketplace.\

The RIT/HP Indigo overprint varnish performance program reportedly enables manufacturers, suppliers and HP Indigo digital press owners to have both water-based and UV coatings evaluated with HP Indigo digital certified media.
