Softak^® is a new water-based coating that can increase the coefficient of friction (COF, or slide angle) of paper, corrugated and linerboard. It can reportedly prevent slippage of products and packaging that are used in transit for shipping or storage containers, and reduces costs associated with breakage or material handling accidents. The coating can also be used when a tactile or suede-like feel is desired in addition to COF control.

Softak is gluable with a range of hot-melt and cold-set adhesives. It is print receptive, recyclable and repulpable in both acid and alkaline systems. In addition, the coating can reportedly be applied with conventional coating equipment such as blade, roll and rod coaters, and is typically offline to create pre-coated roll stock.
