Mactac® Industrial Tapes recently announced that its CleanTape™ line of low-volatile organic compound (VOC) acrylic double-coated tapes and transfer adhesives meet International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 18916 standards for photographic enclosure materials. The testing was reportedly driven by customer requests for a low-outgassing, acid-free tape for use in photographic mounting applications.
To meet the standards, Mactac reports that it submitted samples of its CleanBond™ double-coated tapes (LV820 and LV840) and CleanFilm™ transfer adhesives (LV820) to a third-party facility to test the products’ suitability for use in photographic mounting applications. During testing, product samples were brought in contact with processed silver gelatin, color (dye gelatin), inkjet prints made with dye-based and pigment-based inks, thermal dye diffusion transfer prints, digitally printed dye-diffusion-transfer prints, liquid- and dry-toner xerographic prints, liquid-toner electrostatic prints, and diazo images after long-term storage.
“Mactac is committed to developing innovative products that meet customer demands in all markets served,” said Janet Page, senior marketing manager, Mactac Performance Adhesives. “The achievement of the ISO 18916 designation means customers can specify CleanTape products with confidence for photographic mounting applications.”
According to Mactac, its CleanTape line features a low-VOC acrylic adhesive designed for applications that require clean adhesive technology without compromising performance. The line features products that are pH neutral, exhibit chemical and UV resistance, and offer excellent adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces. Designed for applications in the graphic arts, automotive, and building and construction industries, CleanTape products reportedly meet Japanese Industrial Standards for 13 substances of concern and are low-fog, according to the Society of Automotive Engineers J1756 test gravimetric method.
