At its existing site in Sarnen, Switzerland, Sika is putting into operation a new production facility for its SikaProof® structural waterproofing membrane. The new production facility will allow the membranes to be manufactured in a single operation at one site, which the company expects will simplify the supply chain and significantly improve sustainability performance. Under its new growth strategy, Sika plans to double SikaProof product family sales by 2023.
The SikaProof system is used to waterproof below-ground structures and basements. The full bond between the SikaProof sheet membrane and the concrete structure is reportedly the key to the system’s reliable performance. The increasingly stringent requirements placed on the watertightness of basements in the wake of growing urbanization and densification are fueling the demand for high-grade and long-lasting waterproofing systems.
“The new facility offers Sika a number of benefits: The manufacture of SikaProof membranes in a single step will boost efficiency, increase capacity, and thereby allow us to provide our customers in the EMEA region with an even better service,” said Ivo Schädler, regional manager EMEA. “This, in turn, will pave the way for further growth in the attractive Target Market Waterproofing.”
