MAPEI recently announced that it received the 2020 GreenStep Product award from Floor Covering Weekly magazine at the virtual GreenStep Environmental Awards presentation. The GreenStep Product award is presented to companies with “flooring or flooring-related product(s) that are manufactured sustainably or promote sustainable living.”
Instead of submitting just one product for consideration, MAPEI submitted the company’s product process itself. “When most of the company’s products feature green attributes—by design—it is difficult to focus on a single product for honorable mention,” said Brittany Storm, Sustainability manager. “At MAPEI, it is our product process that is noteworthy.”
Luigi Di Geso, president and CEO, along with Jim Whitfield, director of Technical Services, joined Storm at the GreenStep event to accept the award for MAPEI. “MAPEI is honored to receive this GreenStep Product award from Floor Covering Weekly,” Di Geso said. “We are committed to the health and sustainability of our employees, our products, our clients and partners, our industry and our communities. Sustainability is built into everything we do. This award recognizes that commitment.”
According to Whitfield, “This award is the culmination of every department working closely together. At MAPEI, sustainability and communication are closely connected. It is a part of our process and is necessary for such a strong sustainability policy to exist.”
“That communication process is passed along to our clients in the form of current and relevant third-party-verified documentation, such as Green Squared certifications,” said Storm. “There are also Environmental Product Declarations for 30-plus products, Material Ingredient reports for 50-plus products and VOC emissions certifications for 280-plus products.”
“These sustainable products cross all 11 of our product lines,” said Whitfield. “All of these sustainable reports are offered freely upon request and are also featured in multiple green-building databases, including mindful MATERIALS. This is why we could not choose one product, but rather had to highlight our entire product process when it comes to championing the environment and sustainability. At MAPEI, these factors are literally built into our process.”
